I know this is going to sound terrible, but I had forgotten how much I enjoy helping other people. I really love it. I love having people ask if I can help them and actually being able to do it. It’s such a great feeling. We’ve got a big day at the church on Sunday – we do this thing called "Fall Into Place" every fall, where each ministry sets up a booth so people can learn more about how to get involved. I have a lot of work to do for our booth, but I was able to help our outreach center do theirs (which is actually NOT a booth, but a wall full of pictures). I’m finishing that up this morning. I love that they are happy with what I did. I love that I could help. I want to do more of that. Here are a few of the pictures we’re using, from their Fall Festival – a big outreach down in the government housing section of town. They do food, candy, games, prizes – lots of people come out and then learn about the Life Center. It’s really pretty cool.
These are some of the kids who were down at the Fall Festival. They did a ton of cool activities and games for them. It was a lot of fun. I just wish I’d snagged a little bit of the cotton candy! 🙂
This little girl is SOOO beautiful. She is absolutely one of the most gorgeous children I have ever seen in my life ever. So many beautiful children.
Like this little boy. Such
a cute kid, don’t you think? I obviously haven’t figure out the best way to load photos onto Typead without putting them in an album, but bear with me. I’ll get it… eventually. 🙂
But this is my favorite one. This little girl is the sweetest thing ever. I met her a year ago – she was only five, and now she’s six and in Faith Kids every Sunday. She always had such a sweet disposition and gets me confused with my sister, Carrie, who is married to Matt, who helps run the Life Center. I think she understands now that Matt and I are not married.
When I see the work they’re doing down there at the Life Center – giving food, helping build resumes and find jobs, tutoring, helping restore men and women who have just gotten out of prison – reacclimating them to society and getting them back on their feet… it just blows my mind. It’s amazing work. It’s the kind of work you feel good about doing. I’m hoping to start tutoring on Tuesday afternoons. Many kids in our school district – even kids who are nine and ten – can’t read at all (or very little). It’s so sad. SOOO sad. And the saddest thing is – these kids have SOOO much potential. They are so bright and smart and ready to change life as they know it. Anyway, I just feel kind of sappy about all of it right now because when your eyes are opened to what people are doing – and what they’re doing is really good, you just want to help. I just want to help these kids.
But now I have to run. Lots of errands to do today. I hope you have a happy Thursday. I won’t be watching "Grey’s Anatomy" tonight because I have a date with my hot husband… but my sister is recording it and we’re having a GA party tomorrow, complete with the season two finale and season three premiere. Yes, I am still hooked… 🙂 But with that kind of writing, how could I not be?
Good Thursdays all around!
